Tattoo Artist Interview Questions:
Who are you?
I am a fucked up, artistic, insane, crazy, messy, face melting bag of rainbow vomit and candy puppies.
What do you stand for?
Unicorns.
What gets you excited?
Sex. Sex get's me excited.
You have ten minutes to live -- what do you want to say, and who do you want to say it to?
"Make sure you never get a portrait of my horse face on your ass" to my daughter, Layla. :D
Why did you choose to become a tattoo artist?
Because I like poking people with needles and making pretty things.
How and when did you start tattooing?
Umm... well I started an apprenticeship with an awesome artist in Knoxville and he's taught me almost everything I know.
Who/what were your influences when you started? What are they today?
my paintings and comic books
How you come up with your ideas? Do you have a certain place you go or thing you do? What is the type of situation you create that always works? Do you have a special ritual? Habit? Foodstuff?
Ummm, well. Most of the time it starts with sushi, an art gallery aannnddd a couple hours of nothing to do.
Describe your creative workspace:
Messy. Very messy.
How would someone who watched you at work describe you?
They would say that I was a total bitch for not talking to them and listening to their deepest darkest thoughts, sexy dreams and/or what they ate for breakfast that day. But in reality I'm just extra focussed on what I'm doing ya know, since it's going on their body for the rest of their life...
What do you think is unique about the way you work?
I don't think anything's unique about the way I work, honestly. I use basic principles of design and placement and things like that, it's things that have been around for a lot longer than I've been alive.
Tell us something about your approach to life / work and what drives you:
I can always do better. I'm never happy with anything I do, I try and best it the very next day.
What has got you this far?
The fact that I can take criticism and still no how to keep confident and learn from everything I do.
What keeps you going in tough times?
My artwork is like an alternate reality that gets me away from tough times.
What do you collect?
ICE CUBES. Which sucks because before you can collect a whole lot, they tend to melt.
